Selling an old property and worried it will get stuck on the market? Read this first. Here’s how home staging helped a 1984 flat sell in just 2 weeks.
We received an enquiry from Rachel, a property agent. The property was a 4-room HDB flat in Tampines, a 1984 top-floor home owned by the same family since it was new.
It wasn’t just a staging job. The old furniture had to go, the walls needed work, and only then could the flat be staged. Two weeks after staging, the flat was sold.
After more than 40 years with one family, the flat showed its age:
None of this is unusual for an older flat. But when buyers walk into a home like this, they see the work that needs to be done, not the home they could live in.
Price is one part of what buyers weigh up. How the flat looks when they walk in is the other.
On special request, we started with a site visit to see the flat for ourselves. We went through what needed to be done and planned the work from there.
Next, the old furniture was moved out. Some pieces were disposed of, and the pieces the family wanted to keep were moved out for them. With the rooms empty, the flat was ready for the next step.
Cracks were touched up, the walls and ceiling were repainted white, and the flat was cleaned.
This wasn’t a renovation. Nothing about the layout changed. A fresh coat of white makes a home look clean and bright, and it helps every room feel more open.
Finally, we staged the living and dining area with furniture chosen for the flat’s size and layout. A sofa, coffee table and rug to show where the family would relax. A dining table set for a meal. A sideboard, plants and artwork to make the flat feel lived in.
When we showed the agent the staged flat, the reaction said it all. The whole place felt lighter and more spacious, and it looked bigger. You can see the reaction in the video below.
The agent was happy with the result. And two weeks after staging, the flat was sold.
Home staging isn’t about making a room pretty. It’s strategic styling. Every piece is chosen so that when buyers walk in, they can picture their own life in the home.
In an older flat, that matters even more. The right furniture shows buyers how big the rooms really are, how the space flows, and what each room is for. When buyers can imagine themselves living there, the property has a better chance of selling.
If you’ve been holding back because your flat is old, this story shows what’s possible.

No need. Many buyers plan to renovate to their own taste anyway. What helps more is showing a clean, bright, well-presented home: repaint where needed, then stage it so buyers can see how the space works.
Yes. As in this story, we can move out old furniture, and we also provide disposal and storage services during the staging period.
Yes. For owner-occupied homes, we can style the home using your current furniture if it is suitable. Otherwise, we will bring in our own furniture to match.
Yes. Older flats often have good-sized rooms, and staging helps buyers see that space instead of the age of the flat. The 1984 flat in this story, sold two weeks after staging, is one example.

The staging setup itself usually takes 1–2 hours, with 3–5 working days’ notice. Moving out furniture, repainting and cleaning add time, depending on how much needs to be done.
